Ashley Johnson was born in Orange, CA and grew up in Temecula, CA. Ashley attended collage at Point Loma Nazarene University where she obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. Ashley continues to work part time as an RN in Bremerton, WA. It wasn’t until 2017 that she began to pursue painting full time with her enrollment in the Studio Arts Intensive through Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, WA. She has since completed that program and is currently enrolled in her second year of the Trowbridge Atelier also through Gage Academy of Art.
Over the past three years I have been exploring my connection with nature, both in the wilderness and how nature finds its way into our everyday lives and homes. I gather my inspiration primarily from being outside during my frequent backpacking trips. In 2016 I hiked the entire Pacific Crest Trail from the Canadian to Mexican border, this experience continues to feed me creatively as I process the four months that I lived outside. I process these outdoor experiences through the act of oil painting outside and then bringing the painting back to the studio to construct larger paintings.
